“Poverty is not an accident. Like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings.”- Nelson Mandela
As part of my Health and Social Care plan I will introduce a “Premises Licence” for businesses which sell tobacco products. The revenue raised will be protected and used to promote the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and to tackle Child Poverty and Deprivation in Greater Manchester.
Only by tackling the problems at its early stages can we look at the long term Health and Social Care benefits for our area.
By tackling child poverty, deprivation and promoting the benefits of early diagnosis and treatment of cancer can we make our area a healthier place to live and work. This will have untold benefits for the people, and businesses, of Greater Manchester.
Smoking related deaths in Greater Manchester is 28% higher than the England average for people over 35.
For those wishing to give up smoking tobacco, the current restrictions on use of e-cigarettes in Greater Manchester will be relaxed. E-cigarettes are a stepping stone for those people wanting to give up cigarettes, and so should be encouraged.
